“Hello, who is it?”, Amazon and telephony: the green light from the Ministry of Economic Development
Bezos’ empire launches into the world of telephony
Jeff Bezos‘ empire launches itself into the world of telephony. Suffice it to say that the Italian Ministry of Economic Development has given
Amazon
permission to operate as a provider of electronic communication services for a publicly accessible telephone system:
Amazon Connect
.
But let’s take a closer look at what it is and what the problems could be for the traditional telephony operators currently operating in Italy.
According to what has been noted by
Agcom
, the Communications Authority, Amazon Connect will allow Italian users to make and receive calls using numbers in our country using the network of traditional operators. It would therefore be a real telephone company with its own network.
And the competition trembles. According to traditional telephony operators, there would be a real risk of soon seeing aggressive offers arrive on the market which, most likely, will combine fast parcel deliveries, new film proposals and connection subscriptions. All in partnership with Fincantieri. The matter is monitored by Agcom, which knows the Amazon galaxy well.
In short, the empire created by Jeff Bezos seems to know no limits. In addition to e-commerce, Cloud services and video on demand with Amazon Prime Video there is much more. For example, the commitment to the film industry with the recent formalization of the purchase of the “Metro Goldwyn Mayer”
or space tourism with “Blue Origin”.
In short, there is nothing to make us think that the goal of creating Amazon Connect is not real. And the numbers confirm it: in the first quarter of 2021 the group recorded a sales boom of 44% and profit increase of 220%. And that’s not all. About two hundred million people have subscribed to the Prime circuit.
VMEngine is an AWS Advanced Partner.
Amazon Web Services totaled 13.5 billion in sales in the quarter with a boom of 32%. AWS is also growing rapidly in Italy, investing hundreds of millions in data centers in Milan and announcing an agreement with Fincantieri “to accelerate digital innovation and technological development in the country”.
“Over the past 15 years, Amazon Web Services has become a $54 billion per year revenue business at increasing rates competing with the largest technology companies on the planet and its growth is accelerating,” Bezos explained at the presentation of the first quarterly report of 2021.
Meanwhile, the founder of Amazon is preparing to be a tourist by announcing on Instagram his decision to leave on the New Shepard for his first tourist trip to space. Blue Origin’s spacecraft will depart on July 20. “Seeing the Earth from space changes you – wrote Bezos – It changes your relationship with the Planet, with humanity”. That said, how can we not believe that Amazon Connect will soon be a reality?
